Using course books to teach a class can provide helpful structure as well as an easy way to assess progress in a variety of skills. However, relying on this tool too much can be problematic in a classroom. This unit helped me understand how using authentic materials can help students in a variety of ways; authentic materials can be more engaging and can help students more easily generalize their new language skills into real life situations.
