Present simple tense is for routines or general statements, it is formed with the simple verb and uses the auxillary verb do or does in the question and negative forms. third person singular usually gets an s. It is often mashed together with present continuous by students (trying to use to be as an aux) and it is often hard to remember the third person s. Good activities include daily routine interviews, picture stories. Present continuous is used for actions occurring at the time of speaking or intermittently and often. It uses the aux verb "to be" and the gerund in all forms. Students are often confused about word order and when to use this tense vs present simple. Good activities include miming and talking about pictures. Present perfect is used for things which have occurred at some point but have stopped. It is formed by the verb have, and the past participle (been seen done broken). Present perfect continuous is for things that started in the past and are still continuing. it is formed by have, the participle of to be (been) and a gerund (I have been walking for twenty minutes). Students often confuse it with present or past participle, or use for and since incorrectly. Games with "find someone who has ______ the longest can be helpful.
