In this unit I want to address the differences in text books that I may be using. I don't know what they use in Asia but in Argentina and in Spain they seem to like the Cambridge KETA books. I spent some time perusing them to get acquainted with the style and get a feel for them. It is difficult to use them if you are not from Great Britain. The examples are strange, for example, they talk about lifts and flats where we say elevator and apartment. I am sure there will be some confusion in introducing language and vocabulary as I don't feel comfortable teaching words I never use. No one seems to use an American text book, which I find very interesting as the majority visit the United states. I also saw some beginning English books from Oxford which I liked better, but that was at the infantile school in Spain. All the schools I assisted at in Argentina used Cambridge and did the big test. I would be interested to know what others think of trying to teach English using a -for us- foreign book! The teachers followed the books pretty closely, I was thinking I would follow the structure, for example if it wants you to teach past perfect tense, but then use my own worksheets and examples and games etc instead of the vocabulary and choices the book offers. That way I can teach, essentially, American English and try not to confuse the students.
