Methods and techniques for teaching ESL are far more varied than I'd previously known. Up until this point, all I'd known about is the Grammar-Translation method, which was what my past language instructors had used to teach me. I think that multiple methods can be used by the same teacher and in the same class in order to fully engage the students' minds. For example, using Grammar-Translation for the Study stage, and using Task-Based Learning in the Activate stage. The ESA outline was informative and the suggested activities for each stage was helpful to me. I'm a fan of the Patchwork method as it will allow me more freedom to go with the flow of the class and to adapt to my students' needs.
