In this unit I came to learn about the reasons and motives for reading (purpose and entertainment) and how sometimes we will have both motivations for one same reading or listening we will be doing. The unit goes on explaining that we need more than eyes to read and ears to listen, but also an overall meaning from a pre-existing knowledge of the things that surround us. One key point I learned was that learning to understand texts without knowing every word is a skill that we should encourage in our students.
