Coursebooks should be used wisely and there are many factors to take into account when choosing a suitable coursebook. They can be a great aid to bother teacher and students in providing a structure and balanced curriculum which allows them to observe their progress very clearly. A good teacher will supplement whatever coursebook with their own materials and activities. Both authentic and created materials can be useful and make classes more interesting and relevant. Authentic materials need to be the right level for the students and usually are unsuitable for low abilities. The coursebook shouldn’t be overused since it can make classes repetitive.
