In this unit, the parts of speech and how they are used was discussed. Grammar is far more complicated than simply identifying nouns, verbs, adjectives, and so on and then putting them into the correct slots in a sentence. Within each word classification there are subtypes and categories and then rules for how each can be used within the sentence and in relation to each other. There are also exceptions to some of the rules, as in the case of irregular verbs, and this is due to the fact that the English language has its roots in multiple other languages. This factor can make learning English grammar, declination, sentence diagramming and so on very difficult to a non-native speaker.
