The unit first discussed teaching methodologies and techniques including but not limited to Task Based Learning, Audio-Lingualism, The Lexical approach,Communicative language training, etc. Next the unit covered lesson structures, in particular the Engage, Study, Activate (ESA) approach, going over topics such as elicitation activities, and differing ESA structures including, Straight arrow (for elementary level learners), Boomerang (for per-immediate to immediate level learners) and Patchwork (for immediate to advanced level learners which have longer class duration for more content. The ESA section of the unit also covered activities appropriate for each phase of the ESA lesson such as game and music for the Engage phase, Elicitation and worksheets for the Study phase, and Roleplay and producing materials for the Activate stage to name a few examples for each phase. Then the unit went over how to go about giving feedback, distinguishing between errors and mistakes, discussing how, what and when to give criticism/correction during which phases of an ESA lesson. This section of the unit also discussed types of corrections including self-correction, student to student correction and teacher to student correction, delving into which type of correction is most appropriate during any given part of a lesson. The unit finished this section by discussing correction of writing by using codes in the margins and elaborating to use full words (rather than codes in the margins) above specific errors and mistakes for lower level language students. Finally this unit finished off its content by discussing lesson planning and key aspects that need to be taken into account when going through each phase of any given lesson.
