Watching these two videos was a welcome change of pace for this TEFL course. It was good to see a real lesson take place in practice. The contrast between the effectiveness and outcomes of the two lessons is noticeable. In the first video, the teacher is impersonal, demeaning, and has low energy. In the second video he is noticeably more engaged, cheery, and helpful for his students. It goes to show that you can effectively teach a grammar concept without getting into overly technical terms such as "modal auxiliary verb." Other aspects of the videos, such as the contrasting lighting and noticeably different running times, were distracting and made it obvious which lesson type we are supposed to aspire to or emulate. I personally learned what a budger igar and gibbon are for the first time.
