I must admit this unit was difficult because although I know how words are pronounced I never really took the time to notice where the stresses are. Another difficult area was learning the phonetic script. In some cases it’s easy to recognize the sound but in others it’s quite difficult. This unit is useful as in Japan the students always need to learn where the stresses and the intonations are. Furthermore since they are just starting to read using the alphabet which is totally different from theirs understanding the phontetic script will make it easier for them when they check the dictionary. This unit was very useful as it has made me more aware of the rhythm, intonation and stresses in the English language. And now I’m more armed to teach this aspect.
