The unit talked about receptive skills - reading and listening it also made note that this is the other side to productive skills - speaking and writing. We could understand from this unit that receptive skills are usually used to get information or can just be used for entertainment or both. The unit highlighted some skills like scanning, predicting and deducing information from what we hear and read.
The unit also discussed problems and how to troubleshoot these problems. Some things we should be careful of when teaching or honing these skills are the language, topics and tasks. We should be mindful of the students level and interests.
It is important for us therefore to get to know our students so that we can select content that will be inter3sting and not too easy or too difficult for the students. In some cases we even have to make the students interested.
