This unit looks at different ways of assessing students' English proficiency at different points throughout their involvement in an ESL course. I liked the brief discussion about the different types of assessments that teachers could give their students, but I feel that the overall content in this unit was a little sparse; it talked briefly about the different assessments, then spent pages talking about the different types of external English tests that students may be attempting to pass. While it is helpful to know of the existence of these tests, I feel that more attention could have been put into discussing how to write certain assessments, what settings require which tests, and alternative approaches/techniques for gauging student language proficiency.
