As an extrovert, managing classes or, as in my most recent experience, workshops, is what I enjoy the most about teaching and guiding others. Constantly thinking about whether all students are participating or if anyone is lost, how the group dynamics are progressing and what questions I am going to get is all part of the excitement for me.
I enjoy the challenge of having to alter activities as they occur, or the room layout, due to a potential problem from a student or the wrong dynamic in the group. The unit was a good summary and I was reminded how to deal with the unknown when stepping into a classroom but as long as there is compassion and kindness, I believe that all obstacles can be overcome and are part of the co-learning experience created. As a teacher, balancing our talk time with student talk time is very important and there were some good refresher points for me in the unit. I also learnt that it is not just about building rapport but also about dealing with problem behaviour when it occurs and the guidelines were useful for minimising its impact.
