An effective teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a positive classroom environment. Such an environment provides students with a place where they feel safe and comfortable and maximizes their learning potential. There are many factors that contribute to this positive atmosphere. Some of them include: physical space, student motivation, teacher discipline and rapport between students and teacher. While there might be limitations to a teacher’s ability to control some of those factors (such as physical space), it is still possible to create and maintain positive relationships with students through discipline, which provides order and security, and rapport, which can increase student motivation and confidence. All of those are critical components to student success.
