The contents of this unit were very straightforward and offered no new surprises for me. I do appreciate the viewpoint that tests and assessments are to be given for specific purposes. I do not believe that exams should be given "just because" it's supposed to be done. I think there is value in formative assessments that drive your instruction, since the purpose of lessons is to focus on the needs of students and not just push through a teaching agenda.
