This unit has been very helpful to seperate the difference between two sets of skills for language learners: receptive skills, and productive skills. Receptive skills are the abilities for students to listen and read, and productive skills are the abilities of a student to speak and write. It is important to work all four of these skills because if the focus is only on one, then the student will recieve incomplete information or will feel that they can only experience the language to a certain extent.
