Because this unit addresses common problem situations I feel that it has helped me to be prepared for potential issues that may arise in teaching a class of English learners. I found it especially interesting to consider what would cause a class to fall into using their native language because, while some of that may be out of the teacher's control, to a large degree you can help prevent use of their native language by ensuring you've given clear instructions and that the students are adequately equipped with the proper language. As a language learner myself, I can see how refusing to respond if they are not speaking in their L2 will help force them to use it and that is a beneficial move.
