This unit is about vocabulary, grammar, and functions. I found this lesson to be the most useful and informative, as there was much to vocabulary and grammar instruction that I did not know. For example, I did not know the pronunciation of a word was not usually a relevant factor in teaching vocabulary or that the origin of the word was also not as important. This is something I always try to teach to my EL students and will take this information carefully into my teaching practices going forward. I also liked learning about typical ESA vocabulary lessons (engage, study, activate) or typical ESA grammar lessons (engage, activate, study, activate, study, activate). I also learned about functions, which I truly never thought about prior. This is something so engrained in our language, that it is crucial to be able to understand in depth in order to be able to teach.
