Books and materials
Often the teacher has to create his/her own materials to either supplement the courses book, or replace sections that are not suitable for the class. For the students it can be more interesting and stimulating.
It can be divided in two groups:
Authentic materials
Anything a native speaker would hear and listening can be described as authentic.
PROS:
They are real and therefore more interesting;
Students gain confidence when they understand them;
They can be geared to the interests of a particular group of students;
Created materials
Used designed by the teacher to replace or supplement materials from a course book.
Common created materials include:
Crosswords
Word search puzzles
Role-play card
Flashcard
Gap-fill activities
Picture stories
Course books
Student’s book, Workbooks, cassettes, ecc…
Course books advantages:
It provide security for teachers and students alike;
The teachers book offer many good ideas for the inexperienced teacher;
Course book disadvantages:
Exclusive use of a course book can become very predictable and boring for the students.
It does not always fit the specific needs and interests for all the class members.
