Unit 9 talks about how to deal with lesson planning and what its advantages are. Lesson planning allows the teacher to have a general overview of the lesson, so that you know what the students are expected to achieve by the end of the lesson. It is a great way to to help the teacher stay on track and not get lost during the lesson. However, one mustn't stick strictly to the lesson plan and avoid adjusting to a new situation that may arise and may need you (the teacher) to stray from the subject. Lesson planning is also a great mechanism to keep track of the date of the lesson and materials used for that particular topic in case there is a substitute or you need to repeat the class. Furthermore, the unit provides examples of detailed lesson planning- objectives, timing, students and their level and the activities that will be carried out at each stage of the lesson. The first example shows how a vocabulary lesson can be carried out and the other two deal with grammar lessons.
I personally enjoy reading these lessons as they open a doorway to practicing teaching English. Having actual examples helps me imagine how the lessons could be carried out, what could be altered and what not and how I would do it. I also haven't given much consideration to evaluating my concepts and asking the right questions in order to make the lesson even more effective than the last time. Having these sheets and being able to use them on is something that I am looking forward to.
