This unit has introduced us to the structures and rules for using sentences to express past, present and future actions or possibilities. These are called conditionals and range from facts or actions that are irrefutable to actions that are clearly hypothetical.
We have also been introduced to reported speech which is used to talk about things other people have said. The "backshift" in both verb tenses and time references between direct speech and reported speech were also highlighted.
Some of the difficulties encountered by students with both of these grammar structures were discussed, along with effective activities for the activate stage of learning.
These are important concepts to learn as they are used extensively by native speakers, but are also quite complicated and open to a number of errors by our students learning English.
