There are four basic receptive skills (reading, listening, speaking and writing) in any language. Developing all of these skills is key to providing the students with a balanced approach to learning. This unit has focused on the receptive skills, reading and listening, and how to teach them. The various specialist skills needed for reading and listening successfully were outlined, and also why the choice of topic in a lesson is so important. The interests of the students and their current language levels need to be considered in the choice of topics.
Again, the lesson plan practice was very useful. It is definitely worthwhile to take some time to develop these and put the theory into use.
