This unit provides an overview of class management. The general definition given for class management is the skill of organizing and managing the class in a friendly, relaxed manner while maintaining discipline. There are quite a few factors that influence management of the class such as: the physical space, number of students in class, physical aspects including chairs and tables, age of students and nationality of the students. However, this lesson seemed to place most of the emphasis on the teacher building a rapport with the students. Some of the factors that help build this rapport are: the teachers presentation style, the appropritate grouping of students for each aspect of the class, arrangement of students in relation to each other and to the teacher, balancing teacher talk time with student talk time, proper ways to instruct and engage with students, and maintaining class discipline.
