This chapter of the course discusses the need, purpose, value of evaluating students who are learning another language. Generally the chapter list four main types of tests and gives a brief overview of the goal and benefit of each type of test. The chapter gave a useful example of a Placement exam given to evaluate the level of language ability of the specific student. It was also helpful to understand how a test can be structured to provide the teacher not only information about the language ability of students, but also areas of strengths, weaknesses, language experience, and the students motivation to learn.
