This is an excellent overview of the conditional and has a great discussion of the direct versus indirect speech. In all honesty, I worry now that I myself make common errors when changing from direct speech to reported speech. It was an excellent review and application of tenses and is clearly one of the more subtle communication points in English. I learned a lot about how to teach this as well as learned how to discern between the different kinds.
