And this unit, pronunciation and phonology was discussed and explained, specifically the sounding of letters and the formation of the word sounds. Intonation as one of the most important skills to process when speaking. Most non-native English speakers must grasp the idea of how pronouncing a word with a certain intonation indicates a feeling or a response. This lesson taught me teaching techniques I could use in my classr when discussing intonation as well as ways to practice pronunciation. The stressing of a word also plays a hand in intonation, stressing of a specific word in the sentence can mean multiple different things as well as the stressing of a syllable in one word places emphasis. For native English speakers words or sayings are often pronounced differently but spelt correctly. For example “whatcha recommend?” to a native speaker is it clear what someone is asking but to a non native speaker this is considered slang. In this course phonemic symbols were examined, these symbols are universal in all English language. In addition, I learned how the human mouth and organs involved in the process help form the correct pronunciation of words. Each organ plays a key part on how to emphasize a word correctly. There are voiced and nonvoiced sounds that indicate what word and how a would is being used or said. I have learned multiple techniques to use during these lessons in my future classroom.
