This unit tackled about Modals,Passive voice and Phrasal verb.Modal Auxiliary verb are used to express speaker feeling and attitude.Major usages of modals are for ability(can),Advice(should),Deduction(must),Obligation(must is also used),Offer(would),Permission(may, could, would are use to show politeness),Possibility(can is also used),Prediction(will),Prohibition(mustn't),to show express a promise(will is also used),Request(could is also use.I have notice that some modals can be use to express the same feeling but one thing to consider is that if it is less certain or more to express one's thought. There are two ways of approaching teaching is by selecting one modal auxiliary and one usage and focusing on that particular context, also for advance students it is better to choose the context such as advice and then use each of the most appropriate modal auxiliary verbs in a different way.Students encounter some difficulties when learning Modals like, the number of usages and the modal auxiliary verbs that can be used for various usages, structure of sentences in forming negative sentences, forming questions and forming positive sentences in the third person singular. In the Active and Passive voice, many students are having a hard time when it comes to this part as well as inexperienced teacher. It is important to be familiar with the patterns used to make it understandable. In the Passive, the object of an active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb.In the active voice the focus is on the agent. They both have the same meaning but their focus are different.Additionally in the Passive voice the agent or the "doer" of the action is mush less important and only transitive verb are used in the Passive voice, though both can express a same meaning. In the Passive voice the "tense" is indicated by the auxiliary verb "be"whilst in the Active voice, the "tense" is shown in the "main verb".Passive voice usages are when the agent is unknown and unimportant, changing focus and concealing the agent. The Relative clause which refers to clause of group of words that contain a Subject and a Verb. The three categories are the Independent clause that has a complete sentence,Dependent clause,it is not a complete sentence so it must be connected to an Independent clause and the Relative clause,is a dependent clause that modifies a noun,it can be referred to as an Adjective pronoun. The relative clause has two types, the Defining clause is essential to the meaning of a sentence and the non-defining relative clause which is not essential to the meaning of the sentence. The Phrasal verb or the multi-words verb which consist of a verb plus one or two particles, this particle can be a preposition or an adverb. The three types are the Intransitive phrasal verb which cannot be followed by a direct object,Transitive separable,an object pronoun can only come between the verb and the particle or the object noun can come either between the verb and the particle or after the particle and the transitive inseparable, the object phrase or the object pronoun both come after the particle, this type also include phrasal verbs that have two particles.
