This unit introduces what the concepts of good teacher and good student. The reader learns what makes a good teacher, such as, a love of teaching, an understanding of topic, understanding of how to motivate learners and make corrections without causing students to lose this motivation. There is also an over overview of the types of teaching, for example, the monitor vs. the controller.
The second half of the unit is focused on learning what makes a good student with examples such as an interest in learning, a willingness to work with language and examine their own learning process, as well as, being able to accept corrections. Presented, are the types of learners, young learners to adults, the different levels of learning (beginner, elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, advanced intermediate, and advanced), and the reasons why students may want to learn English.
