I have never thought about teaching English to speakers of a language that uses different letters than English. In this case one of the very first tasks would need to be to begin teaching the English alphabet because reading anything will not be possible until the letters are known. Writing anything on the board to prompt students will not be useful until students are familiar with English letters.
