I have learnt in this unit that tests and assessments can be used for a range of different purposes. These include student placement into the correct level of english class, to check on retained skills and knowledge studied and for entry into foreign universities for example. However, students who may be strong in some areas of English learning and weaker in others may be incorrectly assessed if the tests are weighted to one of their strengths or weaknesses. It is also important that when testing that the material has been well covered in class and that all English skills i.e. reading, writing, speaking and comprehension are assessed.
