Speaking and writing (including games) is an important part of fluency in a language. It is a part that both teachers and students alike may shy away from due to its perceived difficulty (especially for the writing portion). I think if writing is incorporated where appropriate from the beginning of teaching a language, the students will take it in stride as a natural part of learning. Games can make learning more fun and take pressure off the idea that it is an assignment or incorporates writing.
