Understanding and comprehending what has been said or written are very important for new learners of a language. Having learnt a second language in my twenties, being surrounded by the written and verbal language was essential for quicker learning and being able to practice the language constantly. From this unit I've learnt that knowing all the vocabulary being spoken is not necessarily as important as understanding the sentence or text as a student can build their vocabulary base later or as they progress. What is important are the motivating ways a teacher employs to assist with concentration and learning of students to achieve best comprehension skills.
