In this unit I learned about the two categories of basic skills in any language being receptive and productive. Receptive skills include reading and listening and productive skills include speaking and writing. They all are equally important. I also learned that you can read and listen for a purpose or for entertainment. Included in this unit was the special skills to understand the context for what you read or listen to. The five special skills that was discussed was predictive, specific information-scanning, general ideas-skimming, detailed information and deduction from content.
