While the tense units so far have covered the four categories of past and present tense, unit eight introduces one more category to the future tense. It is is the "going to" tense (subject + to be [present form] + going to + base form). This tense can indicate intention, plans, predictions, and is often confused with present continuous due to structure and present simple due to the tense usage. The other four tense categories, the reader is more familiar with due to past lessons. There is the future simple, used for spontaneous decisions at that moment, facts, promises, predictions, assumptions/speculation, and threats. While the future continuous is used for predictions of what could be happening now, inquiries about others plans without revealing personal intent, and for future events that will occur, again, without one's intent being revealed. Future perfect indicates an action in the future that will be completed by a certain time, for example, by the time dinner is ready, she will have done her homework. The future perfect continuous indicates an action that will be occurring by a certain time in the future, such as, she will have been working at the store for ten years tomorrow.
