I learned that through reading it is easier to go back and check your understanding while you are reading the passage. While listening to a passage makes it harder to go back and check for understanding. It is also harder to pay attention to the passage when listening without having something to follow along with. Reading also allows the students so see the words to learn them and then be able recognize them later on.
