This lesson emphasized the need to tailor teaching to students. The outlined advantages of a textbook - uniform mix, proven method, confidence-building for beginner students - are effective only insofar as they are suitable and adaptable to the skills and interests of the group. There were some good suggestions about ways to supplement with teacher-created or selected materials, and the importance of doing so was emphasized.
