In Unit 20 I learned about trouble shooting during class First lessons should be a time for rapport building with students. If students do know each other it would be a good idea to allow students to learn about each other. Don't break out the text book the first lesson!! It's also good for the teacher to learn more about students English abilities and aspirations. Pass the ball is good game to start with. Also playing hangman, Pictionary or memory games help the students to relax and warm up. It's important to realize students are at different levels and the teacher should use different techniques to allow all students to learn. Large classes can present various problems so the teacher should use various techniques to engage all students. Worksheets, Pair groups (pair weaker students with stronger, Choral repetition Teacher needs to recognize that when students talk in their native language they are not necessarily trying to disrupt the class. Often, the students may be confused or they are in a group discussion and talking in their native language brings more efficiency to the assignment.
