There are a number of different ways of referring to the future in English. All together there are seven commonly used future tenses. Although in spoken English the most practiced are “Be going to + infinitive” and the present continuous, it is very important in my opinion to learn and understand the usage of all future tenses, not only for effective communication but for more accurate and formal writing.
This unit, has taught me simple yet efficient techniques to take into consideration when teaching the future tenses. One of them being to combine and compare in one lesson the future simple and “Be going to + infinitive” due to their similarities in usage. A similar approach can be adapted for the future perfect and future continuous.
