Unit Three presented Theories, Methods and Techniques in teaching. After explaining a dozen or so approaches to teaching, the authors presented their preferred method of teaching which is the ESA (Engage-Study-Activate) Method. ESA seems to combine elements from the Communicative, Community and Task Based Approaches. Not all lessons given in ESA style need to start with Engage, proceed to Study and end with Activate; instead teachers can mix up and repeat the phases for interest, and to engage students of differing levels.
