Without any doubt, giving assessment test is important to the teacher in monitoring the improvement of the students on their language skills. That is what I have believed, and I think right. But what wasn’t clear to me was how to differentiate these tests so I can use it correctly. When I was still teaching at the school quite long time ago, it was easy for me to give a test for It was already prepared by the school from the collective questionnaires prepared by the teachers and finalized by the headteacher. The test was already according to the level of the students, and the test schedule was fixed according to school rules. Therefore, the opportunity to create the different kinds of a test wasn’t there for me to learn at that time except for the diagnostic and practice test which I have been using since then to determine the students’ capability of the language. But upon listening to the video lecture and reading the text of this unit, I began to understand the purpose of these different kinds of test and learned when and how to use it. For example, giving a placement test before entering the course could be used to evaluate the level of the students. It isn’t just an entrance exam that the students need to pass as I have thought. Furthermore, the lesson explains about the common external exams in this unit is helpful information that I could use as a guide in the lesson planning and for making an exam that fits the level of my students.
