Reported speech is one of the most fun units you can teach your students. During the study phase, it is critical to teach the structure clearly through a gap fill activity or through step by step explanation. Once they understand the concept, within the activate conversation you can use this topic to get to know your students wants. You can have hypothetical conversations and give them situations to discuss with their classmates about. The topic, however, is quite complex and can be tricky. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and mixed can be easily confused and should be corrected by the teacher when appropriate. When it comes to grammar though, I find this to be one of the more interesting topics because of the connection and discussion opportunities.
