This unit provides an overview of the various kinds of assessments and tests used in language teaching. Placement assessments determine a student's initial english level. Similarly, diagnostic assessments measure what knowledge a student has retained and can be given at the beginning of a course. Progress assessments are used periodically to measure how much a student is retaining, and practice tests help students prepare for external exams, such as TOEFL and the various Cambridge tests.
