ESL teachers will eventually be required to teach new classes. Whether the class is established or meeting each other for the first time, the teacher must build rapport with their students as well as between the students themselves. Often classes will contain students of mixed ability. The teacher may group or pair students appropriately to address these ability gaps. In the event that stronger students finish early, extra work can be supplemented or done off of the existing task. Group and pair work also makes larger classes significantly more manageable.
