Writing and speaking are two different forms of communication that we must focus on as English language instructors. Both forms of communication require very different approaches--and many students that we will work with will place a much greater emphasis on learning to speak fluently than writing accurately. This can present a challenge, as many teachers do not want to dedicate valuable class time to 'quiet activities' like writing practice, and will assign this as homework (which is often never completed). It is up to us to get the most out of our classroom time to ensure that students are able to improve in both areas of communication.
