The productive skills, writing and speaking, are taught using three different types of activities during the study and activate phases. Fluency activities are more focused on the students being creative with their language and the flow of the communication. These should not be attempted until the students have an understanding of the language, which is what accuracy activities and guided activities are focused on. Guided activities are more creative but the output is controlled by the teacher, while the exact language isn't, which is what accuracy activities Focus on. Some accuracy activities are vocabulary and grammar drills and Q and A worksheets. Examples of guided activities would be a guided role-play game and model dialogue. A few fluency activities are in-depth discussions or debates, free role-play games, information gap games, or communication games. Often students lacks confidence or fear making mistakes around their peers along with a plethora of any other personal reasons. We, as educators, can work through these by carefully planning purposeful lessons using pair work, or small group work with plenty of controlled and guided practice before beginning fluency activities and allowing the students time to think about what they will say for the activity.
