Unit 7 on Teaching New Language discussed the elements involved in introducing a new language to learners. The unit explained that typical language lessons usually involve teaching three things: vocabulary, grammar, and language functions. For each of these three items, the things that teachers must consider and the things that students must know were listed. Sample activities utilizing the Engage-Study-Activate (ESA) method of teaching for each of the three main lessons were also included in the unit. From this unit, I learned the important things to consider when I start to teach. Teaching a new language is not easy and cannot be done overnight. Therefore, the teacher must exercise judgment as to what to teach and what to teach first, keeping in mind that the lessons must be accessible and useful for the students.
