After learning about the different methodologies in EFL, two in particular have drawn my attention: ESA and Grammar-Translation. ESA for being the most effective and Grammar-Translation for being the least.
Grammar-Translation is a very old fashioned teaching method and from personal experiences little gratifying. Language acquisition is most definitely a matter of exposure, the more exposed you are to a language more are the chances of achieving fluency.
As a teacher it is very important to not only enforce the ‘stricky English only’ rule inside the classroom but also to encourage your students to explore and practice outside as much as they can. You could recommend anything from watching English subtitled movies/cartoons to listening to English music or simply practice their new vocabulary with family and friends.
