Teaching modal auxiliary verbs, the passive voice, relative clauses and especially phrasal verbs may be quite a challenge for a teacher. Thus, teachers should have a profound knowledge on this subject. English language learners might be confused by modal verbs because they are used differently than other verbs and in a wide variety of situations such as asking for permission and giving advice. As students progress through the levels, they will encounter passive voice and relative clause sentences. Since these are an entirely new structures, teachers should invest a considerable amount of time into teaching them. As for phrasal verbs teachers should track which phrasal verbs have already been taught and try to use them naturally during uncontrolled practice/conversation. I think the modal verbs and passive voice charts provided in this unit are very substantial and I plan to use them for myself and share them with my future students.
