There are two types of course materials. Authentic materials and created materials. Authentic materials are those such as programs, magazines, newspapers, songs, brochures, menus and films. Authentic materials are real and therefore more interesting and motivating. Students gain confidence when they understand them. They can be geared to the interests of a particular group if students. Created materials are usually designed by the teacher to replace or supplement materials from a course book. Unlike authentic materials they can be graded to the level of the students. Created materials include crosswords, word search puzzles, role play cards, flash cards, gap fill activities and picture stories.
