This unit made use of two videos to demonstrate bad teaching skills (first video) and better teaching skills (second video). The teacher used the straight arrow teaching method to elicit vocabulary regarding animals and their actions. It also concentrated on the modal auxiliary verb can/can't. The second video was much better in terms of the teacher's attitude (smiling, joking, attentive to the students, engaged with them, praising them), which helped them to have much better participation. But it was still lacking in various areas; less than good black board skills (the chalk still SQUEAKED!), the teacher could have used more pictures and less miming, some of the animals were too obscure, and he should have emphasized "can't" more because it was the more difficult word. Both videos were helpful in showing what not to do and what to do.
